Laura Mora

Paisajes Interrumpidos

From the exhibition *Paisajes Interrumpidos* (Interrupted Landscapes), curated by Viviana Mejía.

Interested in light and color as physical phenomena, Laura Mora proposes an exploration of the fleeting nature of time through chromatic variations and textures. In this gesture, color becomes a vehicle evoking the continuous transformation of individual experience and contemplation, while simultaneously serving as a record that—however ephemeral—is gathered within sensory memory.

Her practice approaches the act of archiving: collecting and imbuing small objects with new meaning so that, when brought together, they form an intimate narrative. Here, the collection is not a neutral accumulation but a way of constructing memory from everyday fragments; these fragments reveal the fragility of lived experience and the need to find an origin within the manifold and the dispersed. Upon being imbued with new meaning, each object becomes a vestige projecting not only its own materiality but also the trace of time and the gaze that transforms it into a witness.

In this process, perception takes center stage, as the reflection of the subject looking at themselves extends the work into an experience of self-portraiture—a portrait that does not fix visible features but instead reveals the mental image of the observer. Self-contemplation—understood both as a result of social construction and as an intangible phenomenon—articulates the tensions between the ephemeral and the permanent, between memory and oblivion.

Thus, the work is situated at the intersection of the archive and contemplation, where the collection of objects and colors seeks not to establish an absolute, but to map out a sensitive cartography of origin: an origin conceived through what is preserved, reinterpreted, and imbued with new meaning within human experience.
