Natalia Salcedo

How many times have our paths crossed?

This exhibition draws inspiration from the Hermetic principle “as above, so below,” attributed to the legendary figure Hermes Trismegistus. Based on this axiom, the exhibition proposes a journey that begins in the deeply human realm and gradually ascends toward spheres transcending individual and collective experience: natural forces, cosmic events, and atomic and intracellular processes. On this circular journey, the human element tends to blur—though it never vanishes—until reaching a point of energetic condensation where light is simultaneously end and origin, Genesis and Apocalypse. Everything then returns to its beginning in an incessant cycle of death and renewal.

This is an exhibition of contrasts, scales, and narrative tensions—a macro-narrative woven from pictorial micro-stories. Painting serves as the medium for traversing the space between the carnal and the spiritual, the anecdotal and the cosmic, without ever resolving the tension between these poles. It is precisely this friction that enables creation: what vibrates above resonates below, and vice versa. Each image is a unique manifestation of that principle.

The space invites an immersive experience within a dark environment, akin to the primordial void from which all things can be created. Along the path, anonymous faces and presences emerge—some human, others spectral—evoking the many witnesses to this grand narrative: those who have inhabited, remembered, embodied, and passed it on. As visitors traverse this space, they too become one of these witnesses—living parts of a timeless memory.
