Relación Extraño – Otredad

This artistic proposal emerges from correspondences found across the many facets of a long exploration into genealogy—specifically regarding porcelain vessels featuring genre scenes that arrived in Colombia from European factories prior to the 19th century. It stems from a personal history that is surely part of a collective memory, as well as a desire to honor such a precious gift and preserve it intact.

It involves objects that may once have belonged to others but are now one’s own, situated along a central axis where invading forces converge—or perhaps simply porcelain plates viewed from afar. This is what the spectator sees at first glance; yet, the intrinsic notions embodied by these objects can be maintained through direct intervention upon the figures themselves. These forms address the feminine from a deeply private realm, symbolizing significant moments for using such dinnerware—or the act of dressing a table with elements that feel distant, or even alien, to the home’s inhabitants.

It is an exercise in memory, utilizing fragmented recollections woven from the body—speaking to the senses and to nostalgia—of a past that resisted shattering. It is a past that perhaps forms part of a complex narrative, bridging the abyss that opens up between definitions—whether those taken for granted or those that have been erased.
