The Andes and the Amazon constitute ecosystems that define our country’s biodiversity, spanning extreme thermal zones from high-altitude páramos (Colombia holds over half of the world’s total) to the Amazon rainforest near sea level, alongside cloud forests. Colombia is crossed by diverse ecosystems whose value lies in their fertility and life. Páramos act as natural water factories essential for millions, while the Amazon serves as a global lung regulating climate stability. Yet this heritage faces threats: deforestation, illegal mining, urban sprawl, and climate change. Protecting these environments is a necessity for survival.  The interest in these works reflects a deep reverence for nature. Eulalia de Valdenebro honors the sacred purity of frailejones capturing cloud moisture. Vanessa Nieto highlights washerwomen along riverbanks as gestures of care embedded in local histories. Felipe Echeverri explores Andean cloud forests, probing the blurring boundaries between the artificial and natural. Ricardo León’s Tropical Rainforest project focuses on the fictionalization of virgin jungles based on exoticizing narratives by 16th-century European settlers. These perspectives emphasize our collective responsibility toward nature and remind us of humanity’s smallness before its vastness.
