Bark, fiber, animal skin, wool, stone, and weaving belong to different material worlds, yet they share a condition: they are surfaces bearing traces of their formation. Folds, veins, strata, textures, and weaves reveal forces, time, and events.  Material ceases to be neutral; it actively participates in meaning-making. Instead of disappearing behind representation, matter asserts its presence.  Thinking of skin as an outer layer shifts it from a boundary to a space of exposure, mark, and transit. Surface becomes a site of relationships where transformation and duration coexist. Folds act as strata, fibers as growth, weaves as expansion, skins as testimonies, textiles as intertwining, and stones as duration.  Skin supports landscape without dissolving into it; canvas reveals its own condition; structure assumes body; fiber becomes matter, weave, and language. Time remains inscribed on the surface, keeping materials open to ongoing interpretation.
